Merry Christmas Macau

Click here to see the pictures that will help you with your learning:http://pal-expert.blogspot.com/.

Committing to memory – take the following 3 steps.

Step 1: Have a look at the following words as they are what we are going to learn.

sojourn tarriance slugfests Corral dejected chapfallen crestfallen gadarene insouciant nugatory lumbering ponderous purblind dulcet nipping Yuletide sudoriferous pallor zephyr zany ruffian Yam and yew xylophone yapping yelping yore presaged presage xylograph yonder yoke artifice concomitant

Step 2: Read the article below, referring to the pictures at the URL http://pal-expert.blogspot.com/ if you want to.

The place is great for a stopover or sojourn or tarriance, especially in a festive season. Forget the bitter fights or slugfests with your enemies. Corral, fence in, lock up, your aggression.

It doesn't mean that you need to feel dispirited or dejected. No point being chapfallen or crestfallen. The lights will cheer you up.

The gadarene rush or headlong rush by local residents to the Senate Square seems not so unbearable anymore, or is it because one is more carefree, insouciant - so insouciant that they find any gadarene rush by others insignificant or nugatory?

You would walk slowly (but not to the point of lumbering or moving along clumsily) to take in the view even when carrying a heavy or ponderous bag. Although even a blind or purblind visitor would feel the joyful atmosphere, the enjoyment is not just for the eyes. The atmosphere is pleasing to the ear – dulcet and melodious. Harsh criticisms and nipping remarks do not belong to here.

It is Christmas and Yuletide time. Not too many sweat-producing or sudoriferous pedestrians. With the Yuletide lighting filling up and suffusing the place, you don’t see any extreme paleness or pallor on the pedestrians' faces.

The gentle wind or zephyr is blowing, a clown or zany is getting is getting ready for dinner. She is a worthless person, a scut. She is hated, a ruffian, a scoundrel. The choice of food is ridiculous and zany. Yam and yew.

The choice of background noise is zany. She asked her in-house musician to stop playing the wooden instrument, the xylophone, so she could listen to dogs barking, yapping and yelping.

"Speaking of yore, speaking of time past, I had presaged and "pre-seen" that I would grow to become important when I was little. I had had the feeling, the presage." The scut declared, standing next to a huge wooden print, xylograph, and looking out of the window into the distant and yonder hills. "Life has been a restraint and a yoke, and I've achieved not much despite my skill and artifice. Despite my artifice, I haven't had the accompanying or concomitant success."

Step 3: Test drive your newly acquired vocabularies. Fill in the blanks below.

Phuket Vocabs 3: Property Damage

Click here to see the pictures that will help you with your learning:http://pal-expert.blogspot.com/.

Committing to memory – the following words are what we are going to learn.

★fresco★frieze★mural★clangor★din★titter★drivel★poppycock★claptrap★prattling★pratting★fluted★friezes★bedlam★foley effects★transcendence★Dysentery ★mauled ★macerated ★

Some used a temple as a makeshift sanctuary, but they had these to say afterwards.

"The water slowly covered the wall painting, fresco, frieze, and mural. We heard a loud and resounding noise, a clangor, when we were on the third floor. A car in the water hit a truck. The noise continued and became a din. A stranger beside me let out a nervous laugh, a titter. It was not nonsense, not drivel, not poppycock or claptrap. It was unlike a baby babbling, prattling, pratting or just talking nonsense. It was congratulation to himself for running to safety."

There were only fluted columns, or columns with vertical parallel grooves, left of the temple. There were some friezes or ornamental bands on some walls.

Some of the bedlam and mayhem was caught on tape. The foley effects team or the sound effects team did not have to do anything to the recording to highlight the fear of the crowd. This was not the place to display excellence or transcendence in movie making.

Mass burials were held. Thousands were feared dead and the number was climbing by the day. Dysentery and other diseases were feared. Even with the best intentions of those involved, some corpses might have been mauled or handled roughly due to the lack of experience. Many dead bodies were macerated and softened by being soaked in water. Many others had deformed.

Phuket Vocabs 2: Human Sufferings

Committing to memory – the following words are what we are going to learn.

★flailed★ford★galleon★ogre★gavel★mallet★gait★fiend★gingerly★gossamer ★sheer ★gawk★hackles★pestle ★parquet★mangy★pinioned ★

Learn them here ...

The water flailed and tossed about everything in its path. There was no ford or a place where the water could be crossed. Not even a galleon or large sailing ship could have escaped the liquid ogre or monster.

The waves came suddenly: as if someone banged his gavel, mallet or hammer, and then came the water. No men could humanly walk with an even gait or keep an even manner of walking. No men could, due to the force of the fiend or monster, walk gingerly or carefully. Everyone appeared gossamer or sheer or delicate in front of the water. There was not even enough time to gawk or stare at the wall of water. No trees were spared except those with the widest girth. The animals' hackles and hairs on their back and neck rose and they ran.

A child was trying to pick up a pestle from nearby shallow water, wanting to use the tool to pound and grind nuts into edible form. The floor used to be a parquet, made of wood strips in mosaic-like pattern. It no longer was a parquet. Everything was mangy, shabby and wretched. Where was the kid's dad? The old man had his right arm pinioned and restrained against his body by a fallen tree.

Phuket Vocabs 1: The Tsunami

Click here to see the pictures that will help you with your learning:http://pal-expert.blogspot.com/.

Committing to memory – the following words are what we are going to learn.

orgies ¶ panache ¶ pastiche ¶ tintinnabulation ¶ brackish ¶ pell-mell ¶ macabre ¶ lunged ¶ lull ¶ nether ¶ levee ¶ chaparrals ¶ transmute ¶ Cartographers ¶ galumped ¶ filigree ¶ fluke ¶ gaunt ¶ hale ¶ hardy ¶ hedonist ¶ hackneyed ¶ harping ¶ homily ¶ haggle ¶ harrowing ¶

Learn them here ...

This was where foreign tourists had their orgies, drunken revelries. This was where the rich and famous demonstrated their panache and flamboyance, and where pastiche or imitation of another's style was frowned upon. But came the tsunami, from a massive underwater earthquake. The disaster struck only hours after the tourists heard the tintinnabulation, tinkling sounds of the bells of the festive season.

The water was brackish, salty and distasteful. When the brackish water dashed pell-mell and disorderly into islands which used to be a heaven for tourists, everything became chaotic. The act of the nature was gruesome and macabre. The water lunged and thrusted forward. There was not a lull or moment of calm. All nether and lower regions were covered in water in less than a minute. No levee, earthen or stone embankment to prevent flooding, could have prevented the mayhem.

There were cars being trapped in chaparrals, dense, often impenetrable, growth of shrubs and thorny bushes. It would be a long time before the place would transmute or change itself back to being a popular tourist destination. Cartographers and people who make maps would be busy redoing the maps of the affected areas.

" Elephants galumped and moved in a clumsy manner, as if they knew that disaster was going to strike. Not many human beings had a dignified escape, nevertheless. My daughter was wearing a pendant with gold filigree, lace-like metalwork, when the fluke and unlikely occurrence struck," said a gaunt and lean and angular woman. She used to be hale and healthy, and she used to look hardy and sturdy. She used to be a hedonist, and believe that pleasure was the sole purpose of life. "I know it sounds hackneyed or commonplace … and I am not going to give anyone a harping or tiresome dwelling on a subject. No body wants a sermon, serious warning or homily at this point. I don't want to haggle or bargain with fate, and all I want is to know where my daughter is." Cries like these were commonplace.

It was a harrowing and traumatic experience for millions.
